Garena has officially announced a major change for Free Fire players in Vietnam. Starting November 16, 2026, the new Free Fire VN app will become available, bringing Free Fire and Free Fire MAX together into one gaming experience.
This means players in Vietnam will have a new app to download and use. However, there is one important thing players should know before the change: some accounts may need extra steps to keep their game progress safe.
Let’s understand everything in simple words.
Free Fire and Free Fire MAX Are Coming Together
Garena is bringing both versions together through the new Free Fire VN app.
Players will be able to enjoy a shared experience on supported devices. Most in-game sounds from both versions will remain available. Vehicle sounds will initially use the regular Free Fire version, but players who prefer Free Fire MAX sound effects can turn on the special option in Settings.
The new app will support devices with at least 1 GB RAM. However, Free Fire MAX-style animation features will require a 64-bit device with at least 2 GB RAM.
What Happens to Your Free Fire Account?
This is the most important part of the announcement.
Garena has explained that players who have already linked their accounts with supported platforms will be able to move to Free Fire VN by downloading the new app and logging in with the same account.
These login methods include:
- Huawei
- VK
Players using these login methods should not need to create a new account. Their game progress, items and settings are expected to remain available after a successful transition.
Apple ID and Guest Account Players Must Be Careful
Garena has given special instructions for players who use Apple ID or Guest accounts.
These accounts cannot directly move to Free Fire VN using the same login process as other linked accounts.
To protect their accounts, players should follow these steps:
- Open Free Fire or Free Fire MAX.
- Go to the account linking option in Settings.
- Link the account with Google, Facebook, Huawei, Twitter or VK.
- Download Free Fire VN when it becomes available.
- Log in using the newly linked platform instead of Apple ID.
Important: Players should complete these steps before November 16, 2026, to avoid problems during the transition.
Garena has also warned that unlinked Guest accounts may be deleted during the migration. So, if you are still playing with a Guest account, do not ignore this announcement.
Will Your Diamonds, Skins and Game Progress Be Lost?
According to Garena, successfully transferred accounts will keep their game data, items and progress.
This means players should not have to start from level one or collect their favourite skins again.
However, the account must be linked and transferred correctly. Make sure you use the correct login method when opening Free Fire VN.
What About Your HUD Settings?
There is another small but important detail.
Your custom HUD layout may not automatically move to the new Free Fire VN app.
If you have spent time creating your perfect control layout, open your current game and upload your HUD settings to the cloud before switching apps.
This can help you avoid setting up all your buttons again.
What About Existing Memberships?
Garena has also shared information about active memberships.
Existing memberships will remain connected to the player’s account after a successful login to Free Fire VN. However, their renewal payments will continue through the old Free Fire or Free Fire MAX app.
Garena recommends cancelling the old subscription and subscribing again through Free Fire VN. Players who subscribe again will receive an additional 100 Diamonds within seven days of subscribing.
When Will Free Fire and Free Fire MAX Stop Being Available in Vietnam?
The transition will happen in stages:
- November 16, 2026: Free Fire VN launches on app stores.
- January 1, 2027: Free Fire and Free Fire MAX will no longer be available in Vietnam.
- After the transition: Free Fire VN will become the only official app for players in Vietnam.
My Take: Players Should Not Ignore This Update
In my opinion, this is a big change for the Vietnamese Free Fire community.
Bringing Free Fire and Free Fire MAX together in one app could make things easier for players. They will not need to choose between two separate versions anymore.
But I think the account migration part is where players need to pay the most attention. Losing access to an account with rare skins, old memories and thousands of hours of progress would be a big problem.
My advice is simple: if you are a Vietnamese player using an Apple ID or Guest account, link your account as soon as possible. Also, save your HUD settings before moving to the new app.
It is always better to take a few minutes now than risk your account later.
